Join us as we host presenters from across Iowa and the United States who are tackling the new challenges of music teaching in 2020. Take advantage of this incredible opportunity to connect with other music educators. IMEA is offering this affordable online professional development to help all music teachers create the best music education experiences for ALL students. MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE!

Music Brings Us Together When We're Apart

As music teachers, we have seen and experienced the healing power of music in our classrooms. However, over the past six months, the educational environment has and continues to change daily. The needs are overwhelming, the future is unsure, and stress can be high. May we as Iowa music teachers rise to the challenge of continuing to provide music for our students regardless of the method of delivery.
But where can you get quality professional development in a time of social distancing ? Look no further: mark your calendars to attend the IMEA professional development online conference on Saturday, November 21. Designed for all levels, ages, and stages of music educators, there is something for everyone. The day begins with a keynote address entitled What We Must Know and Where We Must Go by Brandi Waller-Pace from Decolonizing the Music Room. After her address, attendees can choose from three different live sessions held concurrently and continued throughout the day. Topics include social-emotional learning through music education, fostering a culturally responsive music classroom, creativity, listening, a mid-career Iowa music educator panel, as well as an update from Angela Matsuoka from the Iowa Department of Education. Nationally-known presenters include Denise Gagne, James Weaver, John Mlynczak, and Ashley Shabankerah. The day culminates with a ukulele jam session led by Dr. Kevin (IMEA president) and Shelley Droe.
Let us remember the importance of the healing power of music and seek out ways to continue to learn and grow together. “See” you November 21!
