This is a series of 30-minute get-togethers/workshops/discussion around issue of diversity, equity, inclusion and access to music education in the state of Iowa. Topics include culturally responsive teaching, social justice, diverse curricula, representation, antiracist teaching and more.

- Not limited to a specific grade level or teaching area.

Free the Strings: Teaching Online Orchestra Through a Lens of Social Justice Annie Savage will discuss her work creating the Free Strings Project with Iowa City Bassist, Blake Shaw. The Free Strings Project is a free online curriculum for string players based on the nexus between creative musicianship, cultural inclusiveness and the skill set required by the current music industry. Bridges 2 Harmony Gospel ChoirDevon Steve, Choir Director at Roosevelt High School (Des Moines) is the Artistic Director for Bridges 2 Harmony Gospel Choir at Roosevelt High School. He will be speaking at our next DEIA Monday about high school gospel choir and the Bridges 2 Harmony Gospel Choir. The Bridges 2 Harmony Gospel Choir was founded by James McNear and Devon Steve has been their director for the last 5 years. Although there are high school gospel choirs across the country, there are very few in Iowa. Don't miss this opportunity to meet Devon Steve and talk with him about gospel choirs and Bridges 2 Harmony.
