IMEA History

History

lowa Music Educators Association was founded officially in 1939 when it joined with the Music Educators National Conference (now NAFME).

Delinda Roggensack was the first president. The yearly conference was held for the first years in tandem with the lowa State Education Convention in October. An expanded convention was then held for two days in January at the Hotel Fort Des Moines. This highly successful venue declined in attendance when teachers were not permitted leave. The conference was moved to November to merge with the Iowa All-State Music Festival. IMEA has provided two NAfME North Central Division Presidents and offered annual conferences for professional development.
